Beyond Wellness:
How Restoring the Religious Roots of Spiritual Practices Can Heal Us

NEW DATE: Monday, September 28, 2026

Noon - 1 pm ET   Online via Zoom

Liz Bucar, Ph.D., is a leading public intellectual on religion and culture—a respected Northeastern University professor, award-winning author, and engaging public voice whose Religion, Reimagined newsletter reaches a broad audience. Her new book, Beyond Wellness, examines yoga, meditation, sound baths, and other practices at the heart of contemporary wellness culture.

In conversation with ICJS Executive Director Heather Miller Rubens, Ph.D., Bucar will explore what is lost when these practices are separated from the religious traditions that shaped them—and how recovering their histories, wisdom, and ethical frameworks can deepen our understanding of wellness, spirituality, and religious difference.
