Lu Vitalis, Fargo, ND, Region 3

Lu Vitalis is best known to most of us for her key role in starting and teaching, for many years, the parish nurse preparation course at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. She started teaching there in 1990. Inspired by the vision of Rev. Dr. Granger Westberg, Lu became a leader in Faith Community Nursing education. She contributed to the national parish nursing curriculum development and served as Director of the Concordia College Parish Nurse Center from 1993–1995 and 1997–2000. During her tenure as program director, she provided parish nursing education to more than 1,600 professional nurses from diverse faith traditions, including many LFCNA members. After retirement she continued for many years as adjunct faculty for the program. Recognized as a local, regional, and national expert, Lu advanced the specialty through workshops, synod assemblies, clergy consultations, and church council presentations. She was actively involved in the Health Ministry Association and supported the development of the Evangelical Parish Nurse Association.

She first joined ELPNA/LFCNA in 2016 and will always be a strong advocate for Faith Community Nursing. Lu lives in Fargo, ND.
